I Can Film – By Team Tui

Team Tui created a film based on the importances of having an “I can” attitude. We believe it is important to spread the word about perseverance and not giving-up. Many of us come across situations and circumstances throughout the year where we just want to throw in the towel and walk away. But what do we accomplish from that? So here’s a film on 2 types of contexts we experience at school on a daily basis, sports and learning that takes place in the classroom. We hope you carry with you an “I CAN” attitude always, no matter what you come across. #IWontGiveUp

Infinite & Finite – By Uheina

Today for Maths, we focused on learning how to understand infinite & finite numbers. Whole numbers are numbers that start from 0 and count on like 0, 1, 2, 3 and so on. Counting/natural numbers are similar to whole numbers but they start counting with 1. Integers are a whole number (not a fractional number) that can be positive, negative or zero. A rational number is any number that can be written as a fraction where both the numerator & the denominator are integers and the denominator is not equal to zero. Lastly is the irrational numbers, the meaning of irrational is not having a ratio.

Probability – By Uheina

Today, Team Tui did Probability Games and had 3 rotations which were playing cards, greedy pig and bottle flipping. My favourite rotations were bottle flipping and greedy pig because those were the rotations that had rewards (lollies). Greedy pig was an activity where you had to roll a dice and add it up to 50. If we rolled the dice and got 1 then we had to restart and reset to 0. My second fav activity was bottle flipping. We needed to count how many times we failed to land the bottle and count how many times we landed it. We used a tally chart to calculate our data but the most thing everyone was interested to do is to film ourselves flipping the bottle. If we land the bottle on camera then we will be rewarded 2 lollies.

Basketball – By Vake

Term 3 Week 4, majority of Team Tui took part in a basketball tournament, as part of the Tamaki cluster. There were more than 10 teams, attending from other schools within the Manaiakalani cluster. This experience helped develop my skills of basketball and it was an awesome moment. We challenged 3 teams on the day. Teams from Tamaki Primary, Glen Brae and Sylvia Park. We all had a great experience and lots of fun and we were undefeated. The highest score for us that day was 56 – 9. How cool is that?! Something I learnt on this day was the most important skill to have, and thats TEAM WORK, and emphasising on the importance of communication.

Using A Compass To Create Circles – By Jaydon

Today me and my buddy Vake used a compass to create different sized of circles. We found out that circles are made out of infinate dots that are connected together. We also found out that there are 4 main parts of the circle and 4 other parts. These parts are: The Circumference, Diameter, Radius and Sector. The other 4 parts are: Chord, Tangent, Arc and Segment. I look forward to the create part where we have the opportunity to experiment using a compass to create unique patterns.

Matariki Kite’s – Jaydon

This term for Matariki, I am learning about Matariki Kites. Matariki Kite’s are mostly known as Manu Tukutuku which is most likely to be formed as a birdman. There is a meaning behind Manu TukuTuku, Manu stands for the bird and TukuTuku stands for the kite to climb through the wind.

I am hoping to make a Manu Tukutuku after I do some good learning about the history of Maori Kites and why they are significant to Matariki.

Fun Run

On the 10th of March, Team Tui were part of Fun Run. We went down to Mission Bay and ran from there with St Heliers with some of the NZ Police. It’s an approximate 2.4kms. The weather was horrible but the kids showed determination and courage.
